Why September Is the Perfect Time for Fall Family Photos in The Woodlands, TX
If you’ve been thinking about updating your family photos this fall, September might be the perfect time to do it.
I know when most people think about fall family photos in Texas, they immediately picture October and November. But as a family photographer in The Woodlands, I actually love getting families in front of my camera earlier in the season.
There are so many advantages to booking your fall family photos in September, especially if you have little ones, want your holiday cards ready early, or simply don’t want to wait until the busiest part of the fall photography season.
And this year, I have a mix of beautiful indoor studio and outdoor fall options, so there really is something for every family.
You Can Get Your Family Photos Done Before Life Gets Crazy
Let’s be honest. Once October and November arrive, the calendar fills up quickly.
School activities, sports, Halloween, Thanksgiving, family gatherings and holiday events all start competing for your time.
September can be a little easier.
Getting your family photos done early means you can check one more thing off your list before the holiday season really gets going. And if you’re planning to use your photos for Christmas cards or gifts, you’ll have plenty of time to choose your favorites and get everything ordered.
As a Woodlands family photographer, I always recommend thinking about your fall photos before the calendar gets completely packed.
September Gives You More Flexibility
One of my favorite things about scheduling your fall family photos early is simply having more choices.
My fall calendar includes a variety of mini session options, including both studio and outdoor setups. Each one has its own look and personality, so choosing early gives you the best chance of finding the date and style that feels right for your family.
If you already know you want a particular weekend, location, or type of session, it is always better to plan ahead rather than waiting until the last minute.

Early Fall Photos Don’t Have to Look “Too Summery”
One question I sometimes hear is, “Will it really feel like fall in September?”
This is Texas, after all!
While our weather doesn’t always cooperate with the traditional idea of fall, your photos can still have a beautiful seasonal feel.
The setting, styling, colors, wardrobe and overall design of your session all help create that warm fall look.
And if you’re worried about the Texas heat or unpredictable weather, that’s another reason I love offering indoor fall sessions.

The Woodlands and surrounding Houston area have some beautiful locations that give us plenty of variety, from wooded areas and greenery to more modern settings.
Outdoor sessions are perfect for families who want a little more movement and interaction. Kids can explore, walk, play and be themselves, while I capture those in-between moments along with the classic smiling at the camera portraits.
That’s one of the things I love most about being a family photographer. Your session doesn’t have to feel stiff or overly posed.
