Class of 2019 College Park High School | Makena

Class of 2019 College Park High School

When I receive a request for a senior portrait session, I always get excited. It’s such a pleasure to meet these young people, the next generation. They’re about to make one of the biggest transitions of their lives, and they have the entire world at their fingertips. After high school, each one of them has an infinite number of paths to take with nothing holding them back. It’s the perfect moment to chase after their dreams, and each one of the seniors I capture holds so much potential! These are the next group of world changers!

About the session

So, when Makena and her mother booked a session with me, I couldn’t wait to meet her. Sure enough, Makena is an amazing young lady. She beams with compassion, kindness, and confidence. She has the most welcoming smile, and this girl is an absolute beauty. She didn’t even need much directing since she was so natural in front of the lens, moving with such grace! There wasn’t one bad photo in Makena’s entire gallery. She made my job super easy and fun.

For the first part of the shoot, we went for a natural, outdoor look. The sunlight gave us some warm lighting as it reflected on the golden grasses in the field. Beautiful! These photos really fit her warm personality. And, as you can see, ballet is her passion! So for Part II, we headed to a more urban location to showcase her amazing ballet skills. We had a slight parking issue, but she just went with the flow, not letting the bump get in the way of capturing these amazing photos. I was mesmerized by her art. She looked lighter than air as she floated on her toes—although I know these positions take incredible strength and flexibility. Stunning.

I know Makena has many great adventures ahead of her, and I feel so blessed to have met this incredible young woman. I wish her the very best in her bright future ahead!

Flower Hoop Sessions | Woodlands Area Photographer

Flower Hoop Sessions | Woodlands Area Photographer

Kids of all ages, especially little girls, are enthralled with fairytales. It’s fun to imagine magical kingdoms and forests filled with talking animals, fairy godmothers, magical princesses, and handsome knights. When I was a little girl, I would imagine my own backyard as woody forest, a special place to get away. I felt like a princess in my own whimsical world. I pictured ivy growing up the sides of my tall, stone castle (my playscape), and flowers of all kinds opening up in my presence.

When I was brainstorming ideas for spring minis, I wanted something a little more magical than a simple flower wreath or brightly-colored backdrop. I wanted something for little girls to feel like a princess and truly enjoy their photo shoot experience. Consequently, I now have my most popular spring mini theme: Flower Hoop Mini Sessions. Little girls (or boys!) can feel like they’re in the middle of a fairytale as they pose inside a life-sized wreath of purple wisteria garlands and greenery. The hoop rests in the middle of a tree-lined path, making the experience even more enchanting.

We all know that kids are fascinated with climbing inside things, so I’ve never met a baby or child who couldn’t wait to experience sitting inside this intriguing hoop. This session works for all ages: newborn on up—you can even add big sister or mom into the mix.

The Woodlands Extended Family Session | The Dresners

      The Woodlands Extended Family Session

I love all of my clients dearly, and one of my favorite things about being a photographer is building relationships with the families I photograph. As I get to know them, especially if they book multiple sessions over the years, I’m able to fully capture the essence of who they are. Plus, it’s amazing to watch their little ones grow and develop—I’m always astonished at how fast they transform from tiny newborns to toddling two-year-olds and on to playful preschoolers. When I get back together with returning clients, it’s like meeting up with old friends. We can always pick right back up where we left off.

      About this sweet family

Erin and her Husband Dustin have entrusted me to do their family photos since the announcement of their pregnancy. Since then, I have seen them for a maternity session, lifestyle newborn session, bluebonnet mini session, and first birthday milestone shoot. So when they contacted me to do an extended family session in November, I couldn’t wait to get it booked and see their smiling faces again. This great gathering would include Dustin’s parents as well as his sister and her family—how amazing that they can all get together like this!

Unfortunately, we faced dreary weather as everyone was coming in from out of town. But I knew there had to be another option. Getting this many people together doesn’t happen every day. Sure enough, we lucked out when we found out about The Oak Atelier, a photography and event venue in Magnolia! They had an amazing indoor space to use with huge windows, skylights, and white-washed brick—perfect for capturing natural light. The sky was overcast yet not raining for us to capture some poses outside too. I absolutely adore this family and love how they make me feel like one of their own. I’m thrilled we not only made this work, but found the perfect spot to capture their entire group. Until next time, Dresner Family!

Vintage Truck Mini Sessions in The Woodlands

Vintage Truck Mini Sessions in The Woodlands

There’s something nostalgic about an old vintage truck, especially with adorable kiddos filling the back as they climb on the wheel hubs, dangle their little feet off the tailgate, and wrestle on a blanket spread out for watching the sun set. I think back to my own childhood. During the long summer days, there was nothing better than sipping some lemonade with friends on the tailgate beneath a shady oak tree. And in the winter, we’d all climb in with a bunch of cozy blankets, sometimes in front of a warm campfire. We’d just chat and laugh until our parents told us it was time to come inside. I guess that’s why the vintage truck theme has been so popular. It’s so reminiscent of those carefree days.

2018 was actually the first year I’ve done Vintage Truck Mini Sessions in Spring, Tx, and they were a huge hit! We found the most amazing old teal-colored truck, and my clients were adorable as always. I enjoyed getting to see some old faces (wow, these kiddos grow so fast!), and I met some new ones, too! To match the teal vintage look, we added some farmhouse-style props: crates, burlap, Christmas-themed feed sacks, holiday wreaths—the whole shabang. And you can’t have Christmas pictures without a little plaid, so I added a snuggly blanket for the kids to sit on. I love how they came out—so classic!

Here were the details of these sessions:

        10-Minute Vintage Truck Minis

        Children Only – 5 Images, $175

        Families – 10 Images, $300

I have a feeling that these fun Christmastime mini sessions will become a tradition. They definitely put me in the Christmas spirit. Can’t wait to see all these cuties and their families next year!

The Woodlands Tx Family Session | The Hendersons

          The Woodlands Tx Family Session

Sometimes the places we see every day provide the best backdrops for family portraits. A backyard photo session or a day at the park not only offers the comfort of familiarity for little ones during the shoot, but these are the places that hold the most memories for us. They create amazing memoirs. We can look back on the photos years from now and tell our kids, “This is the park we used to visit. You loved to feed the ducks there, and when you got older, this is where you learned to fish!” One of the things I love most about being a mostly-outdoor photographer is that you don’t have to go much past your doorstep to see the beauty of nature.

This sweet family was a dream

So, when Karen contacted me to take photos of her sweet family at their local Creekside Pondera Park, I couldn’t wait to get started. Their two sweet boys, William and Christopher, were so handsome! They know this park well, so they had a blast exploring their stomping grounds and showing me all of their favorite spots (and favorite leaves, and favorite rocks).  Oh, how I wish I still had the energy of a preschooler. I love how they find even the most ordinary things extraordinary. Every uncovered rock is another piece of treasure to add to the collection. William made sure to let me know that he LOVES Legos…but he might love riding his bike even more. And Christopher loves playing Batman and building (and I’m sure deconstructing his brother’s Lego creations sometimes).

Needless to say, this session was so much fun. The boys kept giving me their best smiles as they ventured around the small pond. And to top it off, a perfect sunset lit up the backdrop with a shy peak of sunshine at the end.
