Family is one of the most important things in life. Especially around the holidays, it’s nice to be surrounded by family. Nothing beats the celebration, traditions, and happy memories family brings during the holiday season.

Extended Family Fun

As we get older, it’s so much harder to get the whole family together. Everyone begins their own lives, careers, and families and conflicting schedules can make it seem almost impossible to get everyone in the same place at the same time. I recently got to capture a session for a family who knows all about the hardships of conflicting schedules. One member of the family did a two year mission trip in Chile. Another member is currently living and working in Mexico City. Others have jobs, kids, and hobbies that keep them busy throughout the year. I am so appreciative that they took the time to celebrate the love they share.

Celebrating the Importance of Family

Regardless of all the obstacles, we finally got all nine of them together for family photos at their home and it was so much fun! They looked picture perfect in front of the house, and we got some silly poses in the backyard that really showed off their outgoing personalities. My absolute favorite shot was when the whole family donned tacky Christmas sweaters and struck a pose in front of the garage. Hilarious!

It’s so important to spend time with family and capture priceless memories over the years. As time goes on, it can be challenging to get everyone together in the same place, but when it happens its magical, and totally worth it. I know this sweet family will enjoy these special moments for years to come!

When the holiday season rolls around, it seems the year flies by in the blink of an eye. Once the calendar creeps up on October, and Fall is in full swing, we have Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and then suddenly we’re embarking on a new year wondering where the last one went! Fall is the perfect time to get the whole family together with your The Woodlands Area Family Photographer and squeeze in an updated family portrait before the year ends.

Annual Traditions

Every fall season, I offer two mini session dates, where you get a 15 minute slot and 5 images for $250. As always, you have the option to purchase additional images from our session. You definitely want to book in advance as these fill up fast, and I have a limited number of spots. For my first round of minis this year, I had three amazing families. Two were repeat clients, who I have loved watching grow and change over the years. I also enjoyed seeing new faces and getting to know them during our session.

All three families were styled so well, and looked picture perfect! Their photos will look great in their homes, or on the front of Christmas cards sent out to family and friends. Before long, another year will be in the books, and it will be time to ring in a new one. I hope to see these sweet families again next year, along with new ones, when our Fall mini sessions roll around again.

I love photographing families and getting to experience their unique dynamic. Every family is different and so much fun in their own way. From perfectly poised and serious, to fun loving and go with the flow, to somewhere in between, there is never a dull moment when capturing these sweet family sessions as their Woodlands Family Photographer.

A Laid Back Kind of Love

The Murphy family was so much fun! They were playful and laid back and full of laughs. They recently relocated from Ft. Worth to The Woodlands, and we chose the Waterway for their shoot. Pat is an attorney, but should’ve been a rock star. He loves music, and taught himself to play drums, piano, and guitar. He is the ultimate Dad! Rene loves the outdoors, and enjoys the woods just as much as the ballet. She’ll surprise you with her sports knowledge, but can chit chat with the ladies at lunch just as easily. She is the best of both worlds, and recently left her job as a Marketing Director to be a stay at home mom.

Their two kids Aiden and Jackson keep her pretty busy playing referee at home. Aiden is five and her passions involve the color pink and telling her little brother what to do. Her dad recently trusted her with scissors and she cut her own hair, but she totally rocks the pixie cut! Jackson is three and is competing for title of “the most energetic man in the world”. His parents say his favorite place to be is all up in his sister’s business, but I think that smile is WAY too sweet for him to be into any mischief. I had so much fun with this family, and loved watching them laugh and play and have the best time during their session. I have a feeling they can have a good time just about anywhere. They are certainly a sweet reminder of why I love what I do!

I loved meeting this family for their daughter’s first birthday milestone photo session!  They were so warm and genuine and shared with me that they wanted an outdoors location for the photos. As their The Woodlands Child Milestone Photographer, I brought them to one of my favorite spots at the Woodlands, a beautiful forest pathway with tall trees that allows the afternoon like to shine through just so and giving a beautiful glow to the pictures.

Happy Birthday Sweet Aiya!

It was important for them to have some photos which captured the specialness of this moment.  Mom shared that Aiya’s birth had been five years in the waiting. What a blessing this little one truly is! When she was born last fall, she was premature at 31 weeks.  Luckily, this gorgeous princess is healthy as can be and is so full of life as she celebrates her birthday! We have some beautiful images of this family together, mom and her mini-me, and of daddy loving on his little girl.

Aiya is a gorgeous little girl, and mom styled her in a burgundy outfit with a little faux-fur vest and animal print headband!  The colors were perfect and so wonderfully coordinated with mom’s flowing maxi dress and dad’s jeans and dark red shirt.  We had a mini birthday cake and golden cake-topper with us into the session, but no cake smash for us today!

A Flower Swing Fit for a Princess

I was able to set up my over-sized flower hoop for Aiya to sit in, and she looked amazing perched up against the rustic grapevine.  Such a perfect combination of her classic beauty and the natural setting of the forest!

I always ask my clients what they hope to remember from this photo session with me.  They explained, they really just want to remember her personality at this age – how happy she is, her laughs, her hugs, and how much more beautiful Aiya becomes each day.

I had such a fun afternoon, spending it with the Shiflet family as their The Woodlands Outdoor Fall Photography artist recently! These four are such a fun-loving family, it’s impossible not to be in a good mood simply being in their presence!

I think Sherrie was more than happy to spend the afternoon with another woman around, even if for just a couple hours!  She shared with me she has been outnumbered in her family for the past ten years, but has taken it all in stride, as her men love sports and the outdoors.

A Perfect Fall Affair

We planned this session on a gorgeous fall afternoon in The Woodlands, TX. It makes my creative heart sing when we time sessions perfectly with that ever-adored golden hour light. It filtered through trees and onto the leaf-covered floor of the woods, making the perfect setting for this outdoor session.  Sherrie and Tyler did an amazing job coordinating everyone’s outfits in neutral cream, beige, and gray. What a clean, perfect choice for their family. Mom and dad always know best!

Twins, Noah and Luke, were the best of brothers during their session.   Sherrie had explained the boys are super shy, but definitely have a sense of humor, especially when with each other.  Luckily we were able to get them to relax a bit and laugh, so we got some great smiles from them!  Like all siblings, they have their moments, but they are super close and constantly miss each other when they are not together.

I asked Sherrie if there was anything in particular she would love to remember about this time in her life. Her response?  That the twins still love their mom and dad.  Of course they do! But I mean, who couldn’t?!

God bless this wonderful family!
